Feelings are directly related to the thoughts we’re thinking. We typically have habitual feelings we experience as our default regardless of our circumstances. Being aware of this fact could help us have different feelings from what we usually experience. We could experience the feelings we want on purpose.
Start by identifying the top 3 feelings you feel on a regular basis. If they are on the negative side, you’re not alone. Dr. Dispenza explains how long ago humans had to always be on the lookout for any danger so we could react fast and avoid being eaten by predators. That fight or flight response is still wired in our brain, even though we don’t need it. This programming causes us ‘to live in a constant state of emergency’.
Being aware of your default feelings can help you change them. Identify the 3 feelings you’d like to feel instead. Make them part of your daily intentions by asking yourself: “How can you feel X today?” Set reminders throughout the day and check in with yourself. Remember this: feelings are optional. We have the power to steer ourselves in the direction of the experience we want to have. What thought might you want to practice to get you to the feeling you want to experience?
